ommon package materials such as plastic and metal are separate from life and far from being inert, they create toxic waste that is inimical to life. Plastic is particularly harmful when it breaks down to microscopic particles and is then taken up by life to poison entire food chains. This is an incredibly high price to pay for a package that is used only for a short period of time. Another commonly used single use package material, glass, while being inert, uses a tremendously wasteful amount of energy to make, transport and reuse.
